Fregate Island
Evidence found about 160 years ago of what could have been a refuge or hideout of Indian Ocean pirates of the 17th and 18th Centuries. This has made Fregate, one of the most easterly and isolated of the granitic islands, (about 70klms from Mahe and 25minutes flight time), a hunting ground for pirate treasures. The 202 hectare island, which is rich in birdlife, exotic vegetation and excellent fruits, is an organic farmer’s dreamland.
It is the home of the rare and nearly extinct Seychelles Magpie Robin, and the sea around it abounds in incredible varieties of marine life.
